Upper Lachlan Shire Council has secured $40,000 from the Veolia Mulwaree Trust towards the construction of a new disability access ramp at the Crookwell Health Care Centre.
The project, valued at $114,000, will deliver improved and safer accessibility to the facility for people with a disability, mobility challenges, older residents, patients, visitors and members of the wider community.
The ‘Safe, Dignified Access to Crookwell Health Care Centre Project’ is an essential community infrastructure project to construct a disability ramp to the front entrance of the Crookwell Health Centre. The ramp will replace the existing dangerous steep and unlevel ground with a new Disability Ramp to Australian Standards providing an entrance that is safe, functional and accessible.
Upper Lachlan Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Ms Alex Waldron said the Veolia Mulwaree Trust contribution was an important investment in improving access to a vital local health facility.
“The construction of the disability ramp will provide a more accessible entry to the Crookwell Health Care Centre, prevent further falls and injuries and support inclusive services for the Upper Lachlan community. The projects aim is to reduce access barriers to the public space and hopes to increase regular participation in health and preventative health service, by having an all-accessible environment.”
The Crookwell Health Care Centre has been caring for the local community for almost 20 years. The comprehensive medical care provided includes services such as general and allied health, psychology, physiotherapy, audiology, immunisation, chronic disease management, tele-health, pathology and palliative care.
Council is pleased to receive the funding from the Veolia Mulwaree Trust towards this important accessibility project. Improving access to the Crookwell Health Care Centre is a priority of Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2024-2027 and will improve the health and wellbeing of residents and visitors, strengthen community infrastructure and improve the liveability of the shire.
This project is stage 1 of a larger project for Council that includes construction of a disability car park and disability toilet. Council is continuing to pursue external funding opportunities to support this project.
