Upper Lachlan Shire Council held its third community outreach meeting on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, in Bigga. The event was part of an ongoing initiative to strengthen communication and collaboration between the Council and residents from various villages across the Shire.
The outreach meeting offered Bigga residents updates on various key strategic documents, highlighting their significance for local infrastructure, financial sustainability, workforce development, and the long-term vision for the area. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and gain a better understanding of how these documents will shape future projects and services in Bigga and surrounding communities.
Over the past three years, $2,826,000 has been invested in projects such as local roads improvements and the Roads to Recovery program, with major works focusing on gravel resheeting. This figure excludes general maintenance and operations. Council representatives outlined the completed projects in the Bigga district, emphasising the improved safety and accessibility resulting from these upgrades. Residents expressed appreciation for the enhanced road conditions and discussed areas where further improvements could be made.
Depending on grant funding $533,000, has been identified for upcoming projects, including Roads to Recovery works on Grabine Road (gravel resheeting and resurfacing over 2 km) and improvements to Bigga Road in 2026. Council also discussed the process for prioritising future infrastructure works and invited community members to provide input on which areas should receive attention in upcoming budgets. The open discussion enabled residents to share their priorities and highlight specific local challenges.
Road safety was a key topic for the community, along with the management of noxious weeds. In the Bigga area, 100 inspections were completed, focusing on weeds such as Mexican feather grass, parthenium grass, gorse, sticky nightshade, and coolatai grass. Council staff explained ongoing efforts to control these invasive species and outlined educational resources and support available to landholders. Residents voiced concerns about the spread of certain weeds.
Council thanks all attendees for their participation, valuable feedback, and ongoing support. The Council remains committed to fostering open communication and working together with residents to address local needs.
The next community outreach meeting will be held at Collector Shire Hall on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, at 6:00 pm. All residents, ratepayers, and interested community members are encouraged to attend.
