Upper Lachlan Shire Council is pleased to advise residents that the fortnightly kerbside green waste collection service will resume from Tuesday, 1 September 2026, following a resolution of Council at its Ordinary Meeting on Thursday 16 July 2026.
The service was suspended earlier this year as a proactive measure to conserve diesel reserves for critical Council services during a period of significant uncertainty surrounding fuel deliveries resulting from the conflict in the Middle East. The decision formed part of Council’s Fuel Shortage Business Continuity Plan and ensured essential services, including water, sewer, waste collection and emergency response capability, could continue without interruption should fuel supplies have been disrupted.
Following ongoing monitoring of fuel availability, reduced diesel consumption and the continued reliability of fuel deliveries, Council has determined there is sufficient confidence to reinstate the service.
Mayor Culhane said Council appreciated the understanding shown by residents during the temporary suspension.
“Council recognises how important this service is to our community and sincerely thanks residents for their patience and cooperation while these temporary measures were in place,” Mayor Culhane said.
“The decision to temporarily pause the service was not taken lightly. It was a prudent step that allowed Council to preserve fuel reserves for our most critical services during a period of unprecedented global uncertainty.”
Chief Executive Officer Ms Alex Waldron said Council’s proactive approach had achieved its intended outcome by safeguarding essential services while responsibly managing fuel reserves.
“The measures implemented by Council ensured we maintained sufficient diesel reserves to protect the delivery of essential services throughout a period of significant uncertainty surrounding fuel supply,” Ms Waldron said.
“With fuel deliveries continuing to be reliable and Council’s diesel consumption naturally reducing over the winter period, we now have greater confidence in our fuel security and are pleased to be able to resume the kerbside green waste collection service from 1 September 2026.”
As part of the resolution, Council also endorsed an annual winter pause of the kerbside green waste collection service from 1 June to 31 August each year.
Council further resolved to continue its broader review of waste services, including consideration of future service levels, the scope of kerbside green waste collection and opportunities to improve waste and resource recovery across the Upper Lachlan Shire. A further report will be presented to Council once the review has been completed.
Residents are advised that, with the resumption of the kerbside green waste collection service, green waste disposal fees at Council’s Waste Transfer Stations will be reinstated from 1 September 2026.
Residents are reminded to place their green waste bins on the kerb the evening before their scheduled collection day. Collection days will remain unchanged with the exception of the annual winter suspension between 1 June and 31 August.
