On Thursday, 5 June 2025, the Upper Lachlan Shire Council proudly celebrated its recognition at the 2025 NSW Local Government Excellence Awards, marking an impressive achievement for the second consecutive year. This time, the submission highlighted the adversity and community-centric focus of the Crookwell Aquatic and Visitor Information Centre, which was nominated in the Asset and Infrastructure category reserved for projects exceeding $1.5 million in regions with populations under 50,000 inhabitants.
The annual Local Excellence Government Awards serve as a platform to honour and acknowledge the remarkable accomplishments of Local Governments across New South Wales, including the Upper Lachlan Shire Council. While Council did not secure this year’s award, being selected as a finalist for the 2025 NSW Local Government Excellence Awards is a noteworthy accomplishment, particularly following its triumph in the community engagement category at the 2024 awards.
CEO Alex Waldron conveyed her appreciation, stating, “It is a tremendous honour for Upper Lachlan Shire Council to be a finalist in such prestigious Awards; this recognition highlights Councils commitment to improving access to facilities and liveability in Regional areas.
Local government plays a pivotal role in delivering essential services and fostering the continual enhancement of our communities.
This type of recognition is particularly important for Regional Councils like Upper Lachlan, where we do so much with so little resources.
Attracting people to Regional Councils can be challenging but demonstrating the variety of skills gained within Regional Councils and the impact this has within the community, certainly helps Councils become an employer of choice.”
Nominations were highly competitive, with each application carefully reviewed by the selection committee. The Crookwell Aquatic and Visitor Information Centre application distinguished itself as a particularly noteworthy entry, showcasing community benefits, overcoming adversity and a sustainable approach.
Join us in congratulating the Upper Lachlan Shire Council and its dedicated team on their commitment and hard work on this project, which serves as a testament to the Council’s vision for the community’s future.
