Media Release: Council pauses kerbside green waste collections to prioritise critical fuel reserves

16-04-2026

Upper Lachlan Shire Council will temporarily suspend kerbside green waste collection from Monday 27 April 2026 to preserve fuel for essential services.

The decision was made at the ordinary meeting of council on 16 April 2026 as part of broader business continuity measures in response to ongoing fuel supply uncertainty.

Mayor Culhane said the pause is a practical step to ensure Council can maintain critical operations.

“This decision was not taken lightly, but it is necessary to protect fuel reserves and ensure essential services to the community continue without disruption,” Mayor Culhane said.

The suspension will be reviewed regularly, with the service to resume once fuel supply conditions stabilise.

To support residents, Council will waive fees for domestic green waste disposal at all Council transfer stations during this period.

Residents are encouraged to use these facilities for grass clippings, prunings and leaves.

Council will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as required
