After more than four decades of dedicated service to the Upper Lachlan community, Council Carpenter Mick Jones is tools down and retiring after an extraordinary 42-year career.
Mick commenced with Council in 1984 and has proudly served as a Carpenter throughout his entire career, contributing to countless projects that have helped shape the region and support the local community.
Reflecting on his time with Council, Mick said the people he worked alongside made every day enjoyable.
“It’s been a pleasure, it’s been easy to turn up to work. Forty-two years seemed to fly by because of the staff that I worked with,” he said.
Over the years, Mick has played an important role in delivering and maintaining Council infrastructure. Among his proudest achievements was helping construct the camp kitchen at the Crookwell Caravan Park, a project that remains a highlight of his career.
He also contributed to the replacement of 12 timber bridges across the Shire, helping transform them into safer and more durable concrete structures that will serve the community for generations to come.
For many residents, Mick’s work was perhaps most visible at the Crookwell Swimming Pool. For almost 37 years he helped prepare the facility for each summer season becoming an annual tradition for him.
“Every year leading into the Crookwell pool season, I was always tinkering with something,” Mick recalled with a smile.
Throughout his career, Mick has witnessed significant changes in local government, technology, and infrastructure, but the sense of teamwork and community spirit remained a constant.

As Mick begins the next chapter, Council extends its sincere appreciation for his decades of hard work, craftsmanship and dedication, and wishes him every happiness in retirement.
