Major safety improvements are taking shape on Rugby Road, with earthworks progressing well on the 3km upgrade.
The project has been funded through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program 2025/26 targeting a section of Rugby Road where critical safety improvements are needed following a fatal crash in 2023.
The $1.8 million project will deliver a wider, fully rehabilitated roadway, improved drainage and targeted safety upgrades on either side of the fatality location, creating a safer and more resilient road for everyone who uses it.
Works commenced in April 2026 and are expected to be completed by October 2026, weather permitting.
Upper Lachlan Shire Council CEO Ms Alex Waldron said the project was an important investment in the safety and long-term performance of Rugby Road.
“This project will deliver a significantly improved section of Rugby Road, with greater road width, better drainage and a stronger, more resilient road pavement. Every road safety upgrade has one clear goal to help prevent serious crashes and minimise accidents.”
Council thanks the Australian Government for its support through the Black Spot Program, which has continued to help deliver important safety improvements for the Upper Lachlan Shire community and road users.
The works will improve the road’s width, pavement condition, drainage and overall safety, while strengthening the route for the years ahead. With construction continuing, motorists are reminded to slow down, follow temporary traffic controls and allow extra travel time through the work zone.
