Upper Lachlan Shire Council Celebrates Australia Day 2026 Nominees at Morning Tea

18-12-2025

Upper Lachlan Shire Council is pleased to have hosted a morning tea for all nominees on Thursday 18 December 2025 with the official awards being presented on Monday 26 January 2026 at key Australia Day events Mayor Paul Culhane presented the nominees with a certificate to recognised their success.

Council has 5 categories it considers as part of the nominations including Citizen of the year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the year, Young Sportsperson of the year and Event of the Year.

CEO Alex Waldron said “It is encouraging to see so many nominations this year. The events bought crowds and raised much needed charitable funds to our shire but the faces and volunteers behind these kinds of initiatives often go un-noticed.

We are a shire known for sport and our community spirit, and our citizens, young citizens and sports nominations this year were impressive. These nominations are like the “oscars” to our shire, a wonderful moment to recognise some of the incredibly generous and hardworking people we have in our community and the sometimes quiet success they have achieved is to be celebrated.”

Within the shire a number of events were held through the 25-26 year that have been recognised for their contribution to the community, as well as their charitable contributions to key organisations and chosen charities.

All nominees received a certificate of nomination and were able to share with family and friends this recognition.

Council and the Upper Lachlan Shire Australia Day Committee are pleased to have recognised  these wonderful members of the community and congratulate them on their nominations. The Shire’s Australia Day Official event will be held at Memorial Park Crookwell on Monday 26 January 2026 from 10:30am. The event will be hosted by Australia Day Ambassador Ms Amanda Rose.

Amanda Rose is one of Australia’s most influential voices for women in business, a dynamic entrepreneur and respected keynote speaker whose work connects government, industry and community. Coming from a working-class family with deep rural roots, Amanda was the first in her family to attend university and break into the media – milestones that shaped her commitment to creating opportunities for others.

As the Founder and CEO of Entrepreneurial & Small Business Women Australia (ESBWA) and Western Sydney Women, Amanda champions equality and access for women in business. She also founded and successfully sold Business Women Media, Australia’s first platform dedicated to supporting small business women. Through these initiatives, Amanda has opened doors for thousands of women, influencing policy and procurement opportunities across all levels of government.

Council looks forward to seeing members of the community share in the official events from 10:30am in Crookwell Memorial Park. Official awards and citizenship ceremony will occur from 12:30pm.
