Upper Lachlan Shire Council is celebrating another outstanding achievement after receiving a Highly Commended Award at the 2026 NSW Local Government Excellence Awards held in Sydney on 4 June.
Council was named a finalist in two categories, with its innovative “Got Your Back” Proactive Injury Management Program receiving the Highly Commended Award in the People, Workplace and Wellbeing (Population under 100,000) category.
The award recognises Council’s commitment to supporting the health, wellbeing and recovery of employees through a proactive and compassionate approach to injury management in the workplace.
Council was also recognised as a finalist in the Festivals and Community Events (Population under 50,000) category for its Roving Art Show and Arts, Culture & Heritage Trail, a project made possible through the passion and dedication council staff and volunteers such as Mandy McDonald, local artists, Southern Tablelands Arts and community members.
Chief Executive Officer Alex Waldron said the recognition was a testament to the innovation, dedication and professionalism of Council staff.
“To receive a Highly Commended Award against councils with significantly larger workforces and resources is an exceptional achievement and one that every member of our organisation should be proud of.”
“The ‘Got Your Back’ program reflects the values of our organisation – caring for our people, thinking differently and continually striving to improve. It demonstrates that innovation is not determined by the size of a council, but by the commitment and creativity of its people.”
“I am incredibly proud of our staff and the culture we continue to build at Upper Lachlan. Being recognised at a state level for the third consecutive year reinforces that regional councils can lead the way in delivering progressive, innovative and people-focused initiatives.”
Council congratulates all staff, volunteers, community partners and participants involved in both projects and thanks them for their contribution to these outstanding achievements.
