Upper Lachlan Shire Council is set to deliver significant drainage and road improvements along Warrataw Street in Gunning with construction scheduled to commence in late July, early August as part of the Disaster Ready Grant Funding program.
The project will see the installation of new stormwater lines and pits on both sides of Warrataw Street, extending from Yass Street to the creek. The works will also include the construction of new kerb and guttering and the resealing of the roadway, providing a more resilient and reliable piece of infrastructure for the community.
CEO Alex Waldron said “This project represents an important investment in improving Gunning’s stormwater management and preparing local infrastructure for future severe weather events. These works will enhance the capacity of the stormwater network, helping to reduce the impacts of heavy rainfall while also delivering safer and improved road conditions for residents and visitors.”
These works have been made possible through funding provided under the Disaster Ready Fund. The Warrataw Street stormwater and road surface upgrade project is valued at approximately $500,000. In addition, the grant funding includes approximately $350,000 for the detailed design of the Gunning levee. These upgrades form part of a broader program of works aimed at strengthening community infrastructure and improving resilience to natural disasters. The projects will help reduce the impacts of future flood events and support safer, more resilient communities across the region.
Construction updates on the project and any changes to traffic conditions will be provided to residents in the coming weeks. Residents are encouraged to follow Upper Lachlan Shire Council’s communication channels for regular updates.
The works will take between 4-6 months and are expected to be completed by December 2026.
