Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday the 1st of March 2026

In celebration of Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday the 1st of March 2026, the Council is offering the residents of Upper Lachlan Shire free disposal of household goods at the Waste Management Centres located in Crookwell, Gunning, Taralga, Collector, and Bigga. This service will be available from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, making it convenient for you to declutter and contribute to environment sustainability.

Items for free disposal, including:

  • Domestic waste
  • Furniture
  • E-waste (such as televisions, computers, printers, and other electrical items)
  • Recyclables
  • Garden organics
  • Mattresses (limited to one per household)

If you have more than one mattress to dispose of, standard Council fees will apply. The fees are as follows:

  • Single mattress: $51.00 each
  • Double, Queen, or King mattress: $67.00 each
  • Mattress base: $21.00 each

Please remember that this event is exclusive to Upper Lachlan residents, so be sure to bring proof of residency like a current rate notice or driver’s license for verification.

The following items are not accepted as part of Clean Up Australia Day:

  • Chemicals, paints, pesticides, poisons, cooking oil, liquids, smoke detectors, gas bottles, and fire extinguishers
  • Tyres
  • Asbestos

Residents are reminded that throughout the year, several items can be taken to most Waste Management Centres free of charge, including:

  • Scrap metal (fridges, freezers, washing machines, and more)
  • Engine and hydraulic oil
  • Car and truck batteries
  • Plastic, glass, cardboard, and paper

Additionally, printer cartridges and mobile phones can be recycled at any Council office or participating Australia Post outlet, free of charge.
