Half a million dollars will be spent on the Gunning Pool Changerooms as part of a NSW Government funding Program.
Women and girls across the Goulburn electorate will have access to more inclusive sporting facilities, thanks to the NSW Government’s $25 million Female Friendly Sport Facilities and Lighting Upgrades Program.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the following projects are set to be transformed, delivering female-friendly facilities for the local region:
- Goulburn Mulwaree Council will receive $98,004 for Ross Whitaker Pavilion which will will replace the old, disused toilets, disability toilet and first aid room in the Ross Whitaker Pavilion at Goulburn Recreation Area with a refurbished, Female Friendly toilet and change facilities, disability toilet and first aid room. The upgrade will also address current access and inclusion barriers for participants and spectators at the pavilion, drive increased utilisation and grow participation for women and girls in sport, assisting to build a strong, resilient and active community.
- Yass Valley Council will receive $335,936 for Victoria Park Field Lighting Upgrade to remove the existing sports field lighting at Victoria Park in Yass and replace with an energy efficient LED lighting system.
- Upper Lachlan Shire Council will receive $500,000 for the Gunning Pool Changerooms for the provision of safe, accessible, female and family friendly change rooms, showers and toilets within the boundary of the Gunning swimming pool. This includes the demolition of the old public amenities block and replacement of these facilities with female friendly and accessible facilities outside the swimming pool boundary/fence.
“Community sport is a vital part of our social fabric and some of the biggest barriers faced by women and girls are the lack of female change rooms and amenities, as well as adequate lighting,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
“The NSW Liberal and Nationals Government recognises the critical role local sport infrastructure plays in keeping our communities healthy and active, and by helping boost female participation, we will ensure any young girl or woman who wants to be involved in sport can be in a supportive and safe environment.”
“This ground-breaking program will level the playing field by improving facilities that for decades have been predominately used by men, but now cater for the growing number of our local women’s and girls’ sporting teams.”
Since 2017 the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government has committed more than $1 billion to deliver new and upgraded community sport facilities.
Minister for Sport Alister Henskens said major events including the recent FIBA Women’s World Cup and upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup are creating enormous excitement and inspiring the next generation of female sporting stars.
“Whether it’s on the court, field or track, we continue to be inspired by our homegrown talent like Ellyse Perry, Lauren Jackson and Madison de Rozario, who are captivating the nation with their extraordinary athleticism and passion,” Mr Henskens said.
“The Liberal and Nationals Government’s investment in community sport infrastructure is improving facilities for women and girls, and boosting female participation in sport, in line with our Her Sport Her Way strategy.”
