Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday the 2nd of March 2025

20-02-2025

In celebration of Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday the 2nd of March 2025, the Council is excited to offer Upper Lachlan residents the opportunity for free disposal of household goods at our Waste Management Centres located in Crookwell, Gunning, Taralga, Collector, and Bigga! This fantastic service will be available from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, making it convenient for you to declutter and contribute to our beautiful environment.

We welcome you to bring a variety of items for free disposal, including:

  • Domestic waste
  • Furniture
  • E-waste (such as televisions, computers, printers, and other electrical items)
  • Recyclables
  • Garden organics
  • Mattresses (limited to one per household)

If you have more than one mattress to dispose of, standard Council fees will apply, ensuring a straightforward process. The fees are as follows:

  • Single mattress: $50.00 each
  • Double, Queen, or King mattress: $65.00 each
  • Mattress base: $20.00 each

Please remember that this event is exclusive to Upper Lachlan residents, so be sure to bring proof of residency like a current rate notice or driver’s license for verification when you arrive.

To ensure a safe and smooth disposal process, kindly note that items left behind for others to scavenge are not permitted, and we cannot accept the following items:

  • Chemicals, paints, pesticides, poisons, cooking oil, liquids, smoke detectors, gas bottles, and fire extinguishers
  • Tyres
  • Asbestos

We’re also delighted to remind residents that throughout the year, several items can be taken to most Waste Management Centres free of charge, including:

  • Scrap metal (fridges, freezers, washing machines, and more)
  • Engine and hydraulic oil
  • Car and truck batteries
  • Plastic, glass, cardboard, and paper

Additionally, don’t forget that printer cartridges and mobile phones can be recycled at any Council office or participating Australia Post outlet, at no cost!

For more information about this wonderful waste disposal opportunity, please feel free to call the Council’s Water, Sewer, and Waste Division at 4830 1000.
