Council conducting fire hydrant and stop valve maintenance

09-03-2022

Over recent months, Council has begun maintenance of fire hydrants and stop valves within the serviced townships of Gunning, Dalton, Crookwell and Taralga.

Director of Environment and Planning, Alex Waldron said that this hydrant maintenance, which is ongoing, is necessary to ensure that the response time to a fire emergency is not hindered.

“Emergency Services may need to access water day and night, so it is imperative that residents refrain from parking or obstructing hydrants and report any issues that may be observed to Council,” she said.

Public access to hydrants is not permitted and if witnessed, should be reported to Council immediately.

Stop valves are another important part of Council’s Water Assets.  These valves are used by Staff to isolate the water supply when a broken main is experienced or when maintenance is undertaken.

Generally, Council will advise residents when their water supply will be interrupted but in an emergency, such as a broken water main, notification may not be possible.

It is also important that these valves are not obstructed, to allow to access 24/7.
