In August 2023 “Rainbow Story Time” with drag artist Miss Betty Confetti was held across two libraries in Crookwell and Gunning with over 40 children attending the event. Both story time sessions were filled with sparkle, songs and stories about inclusion, diversity and acceptance, there was nothing but smiles from both parents/guardians and children.
Following this successful event, Upper Lachlan Shire Council are named as finalists at the 2024 NSW Local Government Excellence Awards to be announced in Sydney in June 2024.
CEO Alex Waldron said; “I would like to extend my congratulations and sincere thanks to our Library and council staff as well as Councilors for their support and those members of the community who attended the story time sessions. This was a whole team effort as many navigated the backlash of hosting such an event, but to be chosen as a finalist for a 2024 NSW Local Government Excellence Awards in the category of community development is something we should be very proud of.”
The award will sit as part of the Community Development category for The Transformative power of Rainbow Story-Time for Australian communities: valuing and celebrating freedom of choice, acceptance of difference to build community cohesion, resilience, and inclusion.
