Crookwell pedestrian crossing remains a priority

Following previously raised public concerns, officers from Transport for NSW (TfNSW) were in the Shire in February 2022 to do a number of site visits, including a site inspection of the pedestrian crossing at Crookwell.

TFNSW initially replied to ULSC outlining some of the options that will be further considered by them.  In March senior staff from TfNSW revisited the site reviewing earlier suggestions from their officers, with a formal report to be provided to Council in the near future. This report will include the preferred recommendations from TfNSW to improve the pedestrian crossing.

On Thursday 21 April Minister for Office of Local Government and Member for Hume, Wendy Tuckerman, and Mayor Cr Pam Kensit took the opportunity to discuss the preliminary suggestions being put forward.

Afterwards they spoke about the pedestrian crossing with local businessman Floyd Davies, who previously raised concerns about the crossing.

Mayor Pam Kensit said it was very helpful to have our local member, Wendy Tuckerman, working with us on this important priority.

“It’s important to note that the road, MR54, is a state government road, so without TfNSW approval no works can occur,” she said.

“Having the state transport department assist us to find solutions to the pedestrian crossing at Crookwell will be of great assistance.”

Mrs Tuckerman welcomed the headway made so far.

“Until drastic changes are made at the crossing site it remains a serious concern of mine,” she said.

“I am pleased to hear that TfNSW has attended the site and I look forward to further developments to improve the crossing and pedestrian safety.”

After TfNSW provides their recommendations a report will then come to Council with a recommendation to seek grant funding for works to commence ASAP.
