Construction of the new bridge over Burra Burra Creek on Taralga Road in Curaweela is one step closer with Upper Lachlan Shire Council signing Bridge and Marine Pty. Ltd. to undertake the works.

The new $3.4M bridge is grant funded by the State Government’s restart NSW in combination with projects in Oberon and Lithgow Council’s to facilitate heavy vehicles and improved safety to all traffic in the region. Once constructed the new bridge will be over 3m higher than the existing causeway significantly increasing Taralga Road’s resilience to rainfall and flooding, as well as providing safer transitions around a identified dangerous bend.

To reach the new deck height Bridge and Marine have contracted Goulburn locals Divall’s Earthmoving to construct new embankments nearly 400m long and over 20m wide. These embankments will facilitate two 3.5m lanes for traffic with 1m of sealed shoulder for emergencies and breakdowns.

CEO Alex Waldron said: “This has been a long time coming, we are thrilled that the contracts have now been signed so construction can begin to ensure a safer bridge for those utilising it.

The new bridge is Stage 1 of the larger Tablelands Way safety improvements, later stages will see additional works being done on Taralga Road nearer to Abercrombie Hill. The construction of Stage 1 is anticipated to take 12 months to complete.
