Fireworks portion of Concert cancelled due to fire danger

Concerns regarding potential fire danger and an abundance of caution have necessitated the cancellation of fireworks from the Crookwell Country Weekend Fireworks.

“As I stated in my previous media release,  Council would make the safest decision in relation to the fireworks and be guided by the experts should conditions change, acting General Manager Alex Waldron said.

“Today Council has made the decision to cancel the fireworks/pyrotechnics display at the Crookwell Country Weekend due to worsening conditions and the out of control bushfire at Curraweela.

“The Crookwell Country weekend will go ahead as planned and all major routes are open to Crookwell, however the bushfire within the Upper Lachlan Shire remains an ongoing concern.”

Ms Waldron said that schedule for the concert has been changed and instead of pyrotechnics, there will be visual imagery for the colours and sounds of the outback display.

“This is still an exceptional concert with great variety and diversity,” she said.

“We can understand that some people will be disappointed by this change to the concert but Community safety is our utmost priority.

“With that in mind, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the RFS, volunteers and other agencies for their advice and action taken to keep our community safe during the ongoing bushfire emergency around Curraweela.”
