Free household waste disposal this Clean Up Australia Day

27-02-2023

To coincide with Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 5 March 2023, Council is offering Upper Lachlan residents free disposal of household goods at its Waste Management Centres at Crookwell, Gunning, Taralga, Collector & Bigga between 10.00am and 4.00pm.

Waste accepted at no charge will be:

  • domestic waste
  • furniture
  • E-Waste (televisions, computers, printers, electricals etc.)
  • recyclables
  • garden organics

As this event is only for Upper Lachlan residents, proof of residency may be requested on entry.  Please ensure you have a current rate notice or drivers licence on arrival to the facility.

Items of interest will not be stockpiled for people to scavenge. No items are to be left on site for people to remove.

Please be aware that the following items will not be accepted:

  • chemicals, paints, pesticides, poisons, cooking oil, liquids, smoke detectors, gas bottles and fire extinguishers
  • tyres
  • asbestos

Due to the costs associated with recycling mattresses, Council will charge the scheduled fee of $45 per mattress on the day.

Residents are reminded that the following items can be taken to most of the Shire’s Waste Management Centres, free of charge, throughout the year.

These include:

  • Scrap metal – fridges, freezers, washing machines, iron, wire, wrecked cars
  • Engine and hydraulic oil
  • Car and truck batteries
  • Plastic, glass, cardboard, paper
  • Grass clippings, leaves and small prunings

Printer cartridges and mobile phones can be taken to any Council office or participating Australia Post outlets to be recycled, free of charge.

For more information about the free household waste disposal, please contact Council’s Water, Sewer and Waste Division on 4830 1000.
