INFORMATION COURTESY AUSTRALIAN RAIL TRACK CORPORATION LTD.

In the early hours of Sunday morning 10 July 2022, a freight train derailed in Gunning – between Goulburn and Yass Junction. There were no injuries as a result of the derailment.

This necessitated trackwork by the ARTC Rail network over the weekend in and around the town of Gunning, NSW.

Initial investigations have identified some damage to track infrastructure including up to 1000 concrete sleepers that will need to be replaced.

Emergency works will include inspecting and repairing the track as well as removal of the damaged train over the next week.

This will mean additional road traffic on Gunning roads as well as the need to house additional personnel in the town.

Services will be delayed in both directions until restoration works are complete.
