Members of the Gunning community gathered for a PINK morning tea in the Gunning Court House on Monday 17 October 2022 to help raise funds and awareness for breast cancer.

Katie Yeo, the General Manager of Gunning District Community & Health Service, described the gathering as very informative, successful and enjoyable.

“We had a very encouraging attendance,” she said.

“There would have been forty people or more. It’s a very enjoyable morning tea and a cuppa but the community is also very supportive of sharing the breast cancer awareness message.”

Guest speakers were Christine Waterlin from the McGrath Foundation who is the local Breast Care Nurse in Goulburn, and Catherine Rider-Achholzer from Bosom Buddies ACT.

Along with a scrumptious morning tea, the event raised money through a silent auction of a hand-made quilt donated by Margaret Jenkinson and a raffle.

“In all, we raised $912,” Ms Yeo said.

“Last year we raised funds for the McGrath Foundation and this year the money we raised is going directly to Bosom Buddies ACT.”

The winning bidder for the quilt auction was Monique Hillier, while the raffle winners were Puspa Katuwal (first prize), Acacia Hannigan (second prize) and Kimberley Edwards (third prize).

The township first got behind the cause in 2020 when the whole town famously went pink. Since then cancer awareness has been a central focus of community health awareness.

Looking ahead, the Gunning District Community and Health Service’s next major fundraiser will take place next month.

“This year our main fundraiser will be Movember,” Ms Yeo said.

“This time it will be about raising awareness about cancer for our men and men’s health and I’m sure the community will get behind it.”
