Gunning pool amenities to encourage greater use of the area

Pool users, caravaners and casual visitors to Barbour Park will all benefit from new change rooms and toilet facilities thanks to $500,000 funding from the NSW Government.

The funding, under the Female Friendly Sport Facilities and Lighting Upgrades Program, will provide greater privacy and better facilities than those in the current public amenities block.

Council General manager Colleen Worthy said this will improve greatly the usage of the pool and Barbour Park in general.

“The current shared space amenities block is not ideal with families and young pool users having to exit the pool area to share amenities with visitors to the park.

“This generous funding from the NSW Government will provide more privacy and dignity for people needing to get changed and will make use of the pool more inviting, especially for women and girls.”

In addition to thanking the NSW Government, Ms Worthy also wanted to pass on her thanks to Council staff.

“Our successful grants don’t just happen,” she said.

“A lot of hard work goes into our submissions and I’d like to thank those involved, particularly our former Grants Officer Renee Brownlee and Director of Environment & Planning Alex Waldron, for putting forward such a strong submission.”
