Mowing and grounds-keeping in the Shire

07-02-2022

Council staff recently completed some much-needed mowing at Stonequarry Cemetery.

Once a funeral is officially booked through Council an alert is sent to the parks team to ensure the cemetery is appropriately prepared for the funeral service.  Council will always prioritise this work to allow families to be treated with dignity

General Manager Colleen Worthy said she was thankful to the township of Taralga who also alerted Council to the necessity for mowing to be expedited.

“While Council resources are not able to keep up to the current mowing and grounds-keeping workload, they are able to prioritise areas of most urgent need,” she said.

“We’ve been experiencing an uncommon amount of growth, coupled with rainy days when we can’t mow, and some days after that when our equipment would be bogged, that we have fallen behind in our mowing schedule across the Shire.

“It’s the same story for Councils across this part of the state, but seeing our communities working with us during these difficult times is something only country people would do and it’s encouraging.”

Mrs Worthy said she appreciated the community’s patience as Council does its best to catch up.

“The colder weather is coming and this will ease the growing in the foreseeable future,” she said.

“We realise it’s frustrating, but please contact Council if there is some urgent need for mowing in a particular area and Council will do it’s best to work through the most urgent and important jobs first.”
