Owner of construction company takes lead on MAAC project

09-03-2023

The MAAC is back on track after a difficult couple of years, whether through unrelenting wet-weather, cost escalations or Covid impacts on the construction industry.

It is noted that the pools at Crookwell have been unavailable for the 21/22 and 22/23 swim season but The MAAC is set to open for the 23/24 swim season.

Dustin Lloyd, owner/ director of Lloyds Construction said he will oversee a number of key projects in NSW to ensure they are delivered this year.

“I am pleased to announce the MAAC at Crookwell is one of my priorities,” he said.

Crookwell is located in the centre of the Upper Lachlan Shire and is ideally placed for the majority of the shire’s population and visitors will be able to access the site within 30 minutes.

Mr Lloyd said the MAAC is set to be an iconic facility for the shire.

“I am proud to have my name associated with this project because of the benefit that it will bring to the community,” he said.

There is a tight timeframe that will need to be met and it is visually obvious that the project is moving ahead to meet the opening later in the year. What everyone can now see is steel and buildings going up now that the construction of the in-ground pools are nearing completion.

The buildings include public amenities, pool amenities and change-rooms, a Visitor Information Centre (that provides an opportunity to display local product and promote local tourism products), an indoor pool-room, a plant room, a community exhibition centre and a café / canteen for the pool users.

There is a tight timeframe / timeline of tasks to be actioned over the next three months include:

  • Continuation of Structural Steel across all buildings,
  • Metal Roofing,
  • Aluminium windows and commencement of external cladding works.

While much of the work to date has been below ground, therefore not easily visible from outside the site, the photos included in this article show that all the pools are now concreted and plumbing / electrical infrastructure installed and the pools are ready for tiling.

Now that construction is occurring above the ground, regular monthly updates in the Gazette and on Council’s social media will occur.

Council’s General Manager said the project has been possible by both Federal and State Government funding:

“We have been fortunate to receive multiple grants to deliver this project to meet Council’s resolution to seek funding from the state and federal government to realise the MAAC project,” she said.
