Public Notice – “Information for Candidates Session”

On Thursday 11 July – 1:00 – 4:30pm Upper Lachlan Shire Council in partnership with Local Government NSW will be running ONE “Information for Candidates Session” as part of the upcoming election process.

This in-person event will take place at Emily Chalker Building at Robertson Street Crookwell hosted by Leanne Barnes PSM OAM, Former General Manager of Bega Valley Council.

If you’re considering running for Council or just want to learn more about the process, this session is for you. Join us for valuable insights and tips on how to navigate the candidacy process.

Interested in becoming a Councillor?

If you are interested in becoming a Councillor, the Office of Local Government has a dedicated webpage called Become a Councillor for candidates for the upcoming election. This provides prospective candidates with detailed information about running for election and the roles and responsibilities of councils and councillors. Nominations to register as a candidate open on 22 July and close on 14 August.

A series of webinars for election participants will also be held in the lead-up to the elections, commencing this month.     The webinars will cover the following topics:  candidate information  election funding, disclosures and compliance  nominations  third-party campaigners  electoral material, compliance and voting  candidate workers and scrutineers  counting and results  post-election disclosure obligations.  Information about webinars will be published on the NSW Electoral Commission website and promoted via email.

The NSW Electoral Commission provides a helpdesk for candidates to answer questions in relation to their candidature or election processes. The helpdesk is particularly useful for those candidates in regional and rural areas where the Returning Officer’s office may be some distance from where the candidate lives.    The Candidate helpdesk is operational Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and can be contacted by phone on 1300 022 011 or via email at candidates@elections.nsw.gov.au.
