A large contingent of junior hockey players from the Shire represented NSW and ACT at the National Hockey Championships in April.

The thirteen-strong contingent, all participants in the Goulburn District Hockey Association, were picked to play in U15s and U18s rep sides.

The Under 18 teams competed in Cairns from 6-14 April while the U15s played in Newcastle from 7-13 April.

Council General Manager Colleen Worthy said she was astonished that so many junior players earned state selection at the same time.

“As a relative newcomer to the Shire, I often hear how strong the hockey playing history is here, but these selections confirm that’s not just a thing of the past,” she said.

“And they’ve all achieved this against a background of unprecedented interruptions, so it’s a real credit to their skills, their determination, and to their support crew of family and friends. Your loved ones and the whole Shire are very proud of you.”

Mrs Worthy said she was also glad that Council was able to assist some of those players with Council’s Sporting Representation Donations Policy.

“Obviously the credit belongs to the players, but I’m pleased Council was able to assist in some small way,” she said.

Chloe Kemp, Sam McGregor, Eliza Kemp, Jake McCarthy, Bella Croker and Emmalee Croker each applied for and received $300 as a Sporting Representation Donation from Council.
