Significant Weather to likely effect the Shire this week – 5 October 2022

05-10-2022

Council wishes to share information from Bureau of Meteorology relating to the weather forecast this week.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast over 100mm of rain in the Goulburn region this week, areas in the shire and surrounds are already very wet and heavier rain could see local flooding in the Goulburn Region.

Local Volunteers including NSW SES Wingecarribee Unit, Yass Unit, Goulburn Unit and our local Crookwell Unit have been working together to prepare for what may come.

Please stay up to date with the forecast in your area and listen to warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology & NSW SES. Road Closures will be posted on Councils Facebook page and Disaster Dashboard on the website.

A timely reminder for our community to never drive, ride or walk through floodwater – If it is flooded, forget it.

A ‘road closed’ or a ‘road flooded’ sign means that road is unsafe to travel on. Find alternate ways which are free from floodwater or wait until the all clear is given for that road. It is safer to turn around than to enter floodwater. As little as 15cms of water can start to float a small car.

If there is a flooded road which does not have a ‘road closed’ or ‘road flooded sign’, it is still unsafe to travel through floodwater.

Floodwater can also erode and wash away road surfaces leaving deep holes and uneven surfaces which cannot be seen.

If you require the emergency assistance of the NSW SES during floods and storms call 132 500 or 000 in a life-threatening emergency.
