Southern Tablelands Arts and Upper Lachlan Shire Council to Paint the Towns

26-06-2023

The Paint the Town Street Art Festival will kick off across the Upper Lachlan Shire this Spring!

The Festival will create new murals across the Shire, and every Paint the Town mural will be inspired by local stories and experiences contributed by fire-affected community members through a series of upcoming co-design workshops.

Presented by Southern Tablelands Arts (STA) and Upper Lachlan Shire Council, the Paint the Town project has engaged nationally established artists and emerging local talent to create street art murals that reflect our recovery journey since the 2019 Black Summer Fires which deeply affected our community.

As part of the Paint the Town project, STA and Council are hosting two free co-design workshops for people to talk about their experiences of the Black Summer Fires and help shape the design of Paint the Town murals.

The Two co-design workshops will be held on Friday 7th of July – one in Tuena from 10am-12pm at Tuena Hall, and the other in Crookwell from 2pm-4pm at the Emily Chalker Building. Ratepayers and residents are invited to attend one or both of the free co-design workshops.

STA and Council recognise the impact the 2019/2020 fires have had, and continue to have, on mental health. Each workshop is a supported forum facilitated by Stephen Carroll, a qualified psychotherapist, credentialed mental health nurse & counsellor, to ensure the psychological safety of all who attend, and for appropriate supports to be offered.
