The Crookwell Multi-purpose Aquatic Activity Centre will receive a major expansion following the awarding of grants in the NSW Government’s Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund.
$1,188,366 was awarded to Stage 2 of the Crookwell Multi-purpose Aquatic Activity Centre (MAAC).
In total, almost $100 million was awarded to 38 organisations across NSW in Round 1 of the Fund, which invests in new or upgraded multi-sport facilities to provide more opportunities for people to play sport and be active.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the grant would help deliver a heated indoor pool project, as well as five self-powered resistance exercise bikes, and 200m of all-weather walking/running track.
“I am delighted that the NSW Government is supporting Upper Lachlan Shire Council in delivering an inclusive and accessible facility for all residents and visitors,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
Upper Lachlan Shire Council Mayor Cr Pam Kensit welcomed the announcement.
“Stage 2 of the MAAC will enable the community the ability to swim, run and cycle all year around. It will also see the addition of new and exciting swim classes for water safety skills and swimming proficiency as well as fitness and mini-triathlon activities”, Clr Kensit said.
The Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund is a two-year $200 million program with grants of $1 – $5 million available.
Minister for Tourism and Sport Stuart Ayres said the Fund would keep communities across NSW heathy, active and connected.
“As communities grow, providing inclusive and accessible facilities that can be used by multiple sports is vital,” Mr Ayres said.
“This program is enabling people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the benefits that sport offers.”
