As the Seniors Festival comes to a close in 2025, it’s important to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of Councils libraries and the dedicated library staff who supported and organised the Ancestry.com initiative.
Gunning and Crookwell libraries hosted sessions that utilised the library’s Ancestry.com subscription, enabling community members to research their family histories and create family trees. Participants explored historical records and pieced together the stories of their ancestors, offering inspiration from their journeys.
Upper Lachlan Shire Libraries continue to run sessions on using Ancestry as part of the Seniors Festival and library program. Ancestry is free at the library, with many retirees taking the opportunity to investigate their genealogy. The sessions at Crookwell and Gunning Libraries received great attendance encouraging future sessions to be planned later in the year.
Council libraries offer a variety of activities for all ages throughout the year, they are excellent places to connect, learn, and read, with a diverse collection of books and e-books available for loan.
“Regional and remote communities must have access to facilities like libraries. Fortunately, we have two libraries in our Shire that go above and beyond to host events like the ancestry workshops for the Seniors Festival.” Council CEO Alex Waldron added, “If you are new to the Shire or haven’t yet visited our wonderful libraries, now is a great time to explore. We offer new weekly events, making it a fantastic resource for all community members.”
