Timber Bridge Replacement Program nearing completion

30-08-2021

Over a little more than two years, Council has replaced 11 timber bridges in the Shire and the last four will bring the total to 15.

“It’s an amazing accomplishment for Council to have replaced 15 timber bridges, 11 already completed and four soon to follow, in less than three years,” Council General Manager Colleen Worthy said.

“This will make a significant impact to so many communities within the Shire in terms of ensuring safer travel for many years to come.”

State Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman also applauded the effort of Upper Lachlan Shire Council in replacing 11 of the 15 timber bridges in such a short time frame.

“The replacement of these old timber bridges means improved community connections to town and – when we are no longer staying at home – school and sport. The upgraded bridges also allow for easier movement of freight and delivers better road safety for everyone,” she said.

“Support from the NSW and Federal Governments has eased the financial burden for ULSC and allowed for the replacement of the decommissioned bridges quickly, at a time when it’s needed most.

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said this is an excellent example of all three levels of government working together.

“Upper Lachlan has many bridges to maintain, so it’s fantastic the federal and state government can help to deliver these projects and replace ageing infrastructure.”

The remaining bridges are Peelwood Creek at Peelwood Road, Peelwood Creek at Cooksvale Rd, Crookwell River Bridge on Julong Road near Binda and Burra Burra Creek at Blue Hill Road, Golspie.

The Peelwood Road Bridge was scheduled to be completed in the coming weeks but COVID restrictions prevented the supply of necessary materials. It will be rescheduled to be completed soon.
