Trees removed due to potential health risk

Several trees along the Spring Street access to Council’s Crookwell Office have been removed due to the potential danger from falling limbs.

The trees, which are Pyrus ussuriensis, posed health risks which necessitated their replacement.

Director of Environment and Planning, Alex Waldron, said that the reason the trees were removed was due to poor positioning for that species resulting in them growing too close to the powerlines and growing outwards away from the building.

“On top of that, old pruning practices carried out over the last 20 years have led to structural faults,” she said.

“This was looked at as an opportunity to reinvigorate the council gardens.”

Ms Waldron said the trees will be replaced with more appropriate varieties and the gardens will be tidied up and re-planted to present a more welcoming appeal to the Spring Street entrance.
