Upper Lachlan’s new Councillors acknowledged their Oath of Office or Affirmation of Office obligations under the Local Government Act, today, Thursday 17th, at the Ordinary Meeting.

A celebratory atmosphere prevailed during the acceptance speeches, and Councillors expressed their commitment to working together for the benefit of the Shire while addressing the proud family members and friends who attended the meeting in the public gallery and those watching the live stream online.

During the meeting, Cr Paul Culhane was elected as Upper Lachlan’s Mayor, followed by a majority vote from fellow councillors supported by newly elected Deputy Mayor, Robert Cameron, in leading the Council through a period of substantial change.

Cr Paul Culhane has been an Upper Lachlan Shire Councillor for 16 years. With the continued focus on serving his hometown and the knowledge of local government, he has advised that not only will he support local change towards more significant economic change, but he also will be reminding both State and federal member regularly on just how much our local Shire contributes to the State economy and why we deserve their support to allow us to do what we do.

Cr Paul Culhane said, “I am honoured to be elected as Mayor for Upper Lachlan, and I’d like to thank my fellow Councillors for showing their confidence in me to perform the role and lead our team.”

“I look forward to working alongside Deputy Major over the term and am thrilled to have such an able team of Councillors around the table to address the challenges ahead, with fresh ideas, new skill sets and enthusiasm – I know this council will positively impact our residents.”

“We have an opportunity to work collaboratively as a Council to create a great place to live for generations to come, looking after the parts of the Shire we love and what we value while advocating for infrastructure, services and jobs we need to support future generations to stay in rural communities like the Upper Lachlan Shire.”

“Upper Lachlan provides significant amounts of primary industry products and makes enormous contributions to power generation for the State; we need to start seeing some help to keep feeding metropolitan areas and keeping lights on for our city neighbours.”

“We have a fantastic group of Councillors, with a great mix of enthusiastic new faces and experience, and a shared desire to get the best outcomes for our community.”

Joining the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, the new Councillors are Cr Vivienne Flanagan, Cr Gregory Harris, Cr Alexandra Meggitt, Cr Simon Peirce, Cr Susan Reynolds, Cr John Searl, and Cr Terry Yallouris.

The first Ordinary meeting of the Council is scheduled for 21st of November. Details about the new Councillors and the footage of the Extraordinary Meeting will be on the Council’s website: Upper Lachlan Shire Council Meetings Webcast
