On Thursday 8 May, three worthy community causes in the Upper Lachlan Shire were announced as recipients of Veolia Mulwaree Trust grant funding awarded at the VMT event held in Goulburn.

The Golspie Progress and Land Care Association received $18,310 to restore Golspie Hall. The Crookwell Services Women’s Bowling Club was awarded $5,075 to purchase a new bowling green roller. Additionally, the Upper Lachlan Shire Council was granted $20,000 to enhance accessibility at the Gunning Court House.

Upper Lachlan Shire Council CEO Alex Waldron and Shire Mayor Paul Culhane attended the event. Mayor Culhane congratulated all the recipients, stating, “It is great to see these worthy causes receiving funding. It is excellent to support initiatives that improve community infrastructure and assist vital local groups.”

Furthermore, Upper Lachlan Shire Council CEO Alex Waldron expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting that “Accessible infrastructure goes beyond physical accommodations; it’s about fostering a culture of equality and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to navigate the world independently, gently, and with dignity.”

The Gunning Court House project, in collaboration with the Gunning Focus Group, aims to ensure dignified and inclusive access to the Gunning Courtroom. This multi-purpose community space also serves as a unique venue for chamber music in Gunning. The project will involve constructing a modern, fit-for-purpose disability access ramp at the existing front veranda and replacing inaccessible front steps.

These improvements will enhance the venue’s inclusiveness and eliminate access barriers faced by community members with disabilities and mobility impairments, providing everyone with a welcoming and dignified entrance.

These changes will benefit a broader cross-section of the community and visitors, making this valuable community asset more accessible and preventing potential injuries.

Upper Lachlan Shire Council looks forward to seeing more elderly individuals and people with disabilities utilising the venue for activities such as enjoying fine music performances, attending community meetings, fairs, and history seminars, and participating in workshops for spinners, weavers, and quilters.
