Work continues at Crookwell Swimming Pool

23-11-2023

As work continues to complete the initial stage of the Crookwell swimming pool and Visitor Information Centre (VIC), it seems timely to provide the following update on its progression.

The initial stage has been broken down into two separable portions, the first comprises of the 25m outdoor swimming pool, the toddlers pool, paths and signage. The second separable portion comprises of the VIC being completed as a cold shell, this means the structure will be completed, building clad and roof added to seal the building. The aim of this is to remove the eyesore as you drive into Crookwell.

CEO Alex Waldron said;

“A distressed project is always difficult to manage as one contractor often leaves a mess for another to clean up. The previous contractor had completed several elements in a rushed manner and the subcontractors had not returned to inspect their work and allow rectification works or certification to take place.

This leads to delays as the new construction contractor carries out extensive due diligence and dilapidation inspections. Although this can be frustrating as it delays continuance of the project, it is necessary and avoids safety concerns or delays later down the line.”

To that end, inspections and rectification works have been the focus over the last two months with structural defects identified requiring some additional rectification works in order to meet compliance and approval by the certifier. Further rectification works are due to take place in the plant room within the next two weeks.

The plumbers have also been on site completing inspections which revealed a small amount of damage that required rectification prior to the project continuing.

The 25m pool has received some extra grinding and smoothing works to ensure the liner could be correctly fitted and to ensure warranty by the pool subcontractor.

The new steel contractor is onboard and they have carried out further work and begun further fabrication.

The balance tanks also require waterproofing and this will take place in the next few weeks following site inspections.

Work has begun to add safety mesh to the roof ready for the roofing contractor to start work.

Finally, the cladding works to the outside of the building will begin in the next two weeks which will make a huge difference to the look of the structure and the approach to the town.
