MEDIA RELEASE SUPPLIED BY FRIENDS OF THE CORONATION THEATRE

Max Cullen and Margarita Georgiadis are custodians of the iconic Coronation Theatre building (c 1937) in Gunning.

They are seeking funds to assist with major renovation works to ensure this historically significant cultural heritage venue, will continue to remain standing for the community of Gunning,  performing artists, visual artists, community groups, touring audiences, and stakeholders for many years into the future.

Max and Margarita have lovingly maintained this historic landmark building for the past 19 years.

The couple have invested all their resources, time, money, passion, vision and energy into transforming The Coronation Theatre into a multi-discipline cultural venue that is proudly the GUNNING ARTS CENTRE.

It has taken the creative and dedicated couple many years to establish their arts venues under the one roof of the Gunning Arts Centre.

The venues include The Picture House Gallery, The Picture House Theatre, The Picture House Studio, The Picture House Gardens and is also home to Creative Gunning premises.

In addition, they have created a relaxing one acre Australian Bush Garden at the rear of the property, which is landscaped to accommodate, outdoor performances, exhibitions, festival and community events. In conjunction with a NSW Creative Capital Grant Application for critical restoration work to the rusty original corrugated roof and adequate professional sound insulation of the auditorium interior walls, Max and Margarita are keen to foster the full potential of the cultural premises.

Max and Margarita have launched a ‘GoFundMe’ Fundraiser and welcome assistance from the community and beyond, toward this culturally significant restoration project. This fundraiser is integral to the application process and will assist NSW Creative Capital Grant, which will allow them, under the auspice of Upper Lachlan Shire Council, to realise the full potential of the proposed works.

Max and Margarita sincerely hope their community, friends and patrons can help them “Save The Coronation Theatre” for generations to come! A terrific project to get behind for the streetscape, cultural heritage and community of Gunning and the region.
