With the swimming season upon us, Council highlighted the importance of pool safety during Spring Storytime at our libraries. One of Councils local lifeguards read the featured book ‘Wise Owl at the Pool’, answered questions about safety, and shared important facts with parents and carers.
In the story, Wise Owl teams up with Lifesaver Lil and Boo the alien to explore water safety. The central theme is the “Kids Alive—Do the Five” message, which outlines five essential steps to prevent drowning.
- Fence the pool: Ensuring a pool has a proper safety fence.
- Shut the gate: Make sure the pool gate is always shut and latched.
- Learn to swim: Teaching children to swim and be comfortable in the water.
- Adult supervision: Never leaving children unsupervised near water.
- Learn CPR: Having the knowledge and ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
The sensory Storytime included finger puppets and colouring activities for attendees at both Crookwell and Gunning libraries.
