Upper Lachlan Shire Council is encouraging residents, landowners, developers and community members to attend upcoming drop-in information sessions on the Draft Housing Strategy and Draft Development Control Plan (DCP), providing an opportunity to learn more about the documents and have their say before they are finalised.
The drop-in sessions are an important part of Council’s commitment to ensuring the community has a voice in planning for the future growth and development of the Upper Lachlan Shire.
The Draft Housing Strategy sets out a long-term vision for housing across the Shire, identifying current and future housing needs while considering population growth, affordability, housing diversity and the availability of land for development. The strategy aims to ensure there is a range of housing options to meet the needs of current and future residents.
The Draft Development Control Plan (DCP) complements the Housing Strategy by providing practical planning guidelines that will be used to assess future development applications. It outlines design and development standards that help ensure new development is well planned, protects local character and delivers positive outcomes for the community.
CEO Alex Waldron said “Council staff will be available at the drop-in sessions to answer questions, explain the purpose of both documents and discuss how the proposed changes may affect residents, businesses and future development within the Shire.
These sessions and feedback will help guide how the shire will continue to grow over the coming years, so it’s important that our community can understand what’s being proposed and provide feedback.”
Feedback received during the public exhibition period (Wednesday 1 July – Wednesday 26 August 2026) will be considered before the final Housing Strategy and Development Control Plan are presented to Council for adoption. Council encourages all interested community members to attend a drop-in session and contribute to shaping the future of the Upper Lachlan Shire.
