Six new cabins are being delivered and installed at Crookwell caravan park this week in a major boost for local accommodation in Upper Lachlan Shire.
The prefabricated buildings, constructed in NSW, are part of Transgrid’s community investment funding for HumeLink to support the Upper Lachlan Shire Council’s plans to provide upgraded tourist accommodation at Crookwell Caravan Park.
Transgrid’s HumeLink Program Director John Burke said this outcome reflects the strong collaboration between Transgrid, the HumeLink East project team and Upper Lachlan Shire Council.
“We’re proud to support a practical legacy that will benefit the community both during the HumeLink East construction period and well into the future.”
The HumeLink East project is being delivered for Transgrid by a joint venture between Acciona Construction Australia Pty Ltd and Genus Infrastructure (NSW) Pty Ltd.
HumeLink East Project Director Carel Nagel said the cabins will serve a dual purpose.
“These cabins will ensure that we can house some of our workforce in the local community, close to where we’re working, while we are building this nation-critical infrastructure.
“Once construction on the project is completed, the cabins will then be available for long-term rentals to residents or for tourist and visitor accommodation.”
The cabins, which were constructed in Armidale, will provide a mix of one and two-bedroom configurations.
Upper Lachlan Shire Council Mayor Paul Culhane said thecabins will be a long-term asset and assist in the promotion of tourism for the shire.
“The Cabins will bring a new and improved standard of offering for our visitors and tourists as well as providing us with another income stream to assist Councils ongoing sustainability”.
“Council would like to thank Transgrid and HumeLink East for this investment in the future of Upper Lachlan, these cabins which will benefit the community for years to come.”
HumeLink East is also paying for the rental of the cabins up front to help cover the cost of upgrading the caravan park’s electrical supply.
The cabins will now be fitted out ready for use by HumeLink East workers in the next few weeks as work on the project steps up for tower construction between Bannaby and Pejar Dam.
HumeLink East workers will move into the cabins in September and will continue using them throughout 2027 before they are handed back to Council.
One cabin will also be left vacant between August and December to allow the Council to rent it out for tourist accommodation in the warmer months.
