Jam-packed schedule for Australia Day 2023 in the Shire

Australia Day 2023 will be jam-packed with activities across the Shire in 2023.

The official party, including Official Ambassador Sophie Smith, Founder of the Running for Premature Babies Foundation, will head to Barbour Park in Gunning for a breakfast BBQ, and to commence the awards ceremonies in the categories of Event of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, Young Sportsperson of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year.

  • Welcome to Country (Aboriginal Elder Joel Bulger)
  • Prayer (Pastor Ellen Manwaring)
  • Official speeches (Mayor Pam Kensit, Australia Day Ambassador Sophie Smith OAM)
  • National Anthem
  • Australia Day Awards.

Next stop in their journey will be the Official Ceremony at Memorial Oval, Crookwell where Mayor Pam Kensit will perform a citizenship ceremony, and continue the Australia Day Award presentations alongside Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman and Member for Hume, Angus Taylor.

The Australia Day event offers something for the whole family with a traditional sausage sizzle put on by Crookwell Lions and Crookwell Rotary clubs and lamingtons and damper from the Country Women’s Association.  

“The Rich Pitcher” Band that wowed the crowd last year will be back in the afternoon, and there will be a range of activities available to children of all ages including inflatable obstacle course, egg and spoon races,  games and activities as well as some great arts and crafts experiences.
