Upper Lachlan Shire Council has reached another important milestone in the delivery of the new Crookwell Aquatic and Visitor Information Centre precinct, with the completion of a major rooftop solar installation.
The project has been made possible through funding support from the Veolia Mulwaree Trust and the NSW Office of Responsible Gambling Infrastructure Grants Program and forms part of Council’s commitment to delivering modern, sustainable and environmentally responsible community infrastructure.
Designed with long-term sustainability in mind, the new facility incorporates energy-efficient systems and renewable energy technology that will reduce councils’ energy costs and lower Council’s carbon footprint for years to come.
Chief Executive Officer Alex Waldron said Council had placed a strong emphasis on ensuring the precinct was not only welcoming and contemporary, but also financially and environmentally sustainable.
“Council has placed a strong focus on ensuring the facility is not only modern and welcoming, but also efficient, environmentally responsible and financially sustainable to operate into the future,” Ms Waldron said.
“The solar installation, combined with modern building design and energy-efficient systems, will help reduce long-term operating costs while supporting Council’s broader sustainability objectives.”
Residents will have noticed significant activity at the site in recent weeks as the precinct moves closer to completion. External construction works, including the installation of the solar PV system, have now largely been finalised, while internal works to the commercial kitchen and building furnishings are continuing.
The community was recently advised that one of the final major pieces of infrastructure for the precinct, the installation of the new electrical substation, was underway. Residents may have noticed temporary road closures while specialist crews completed the essential electrical works required to service the site.
Council will continue to provide updates on the Crookwell Aquatic and Visitor Information Centre precinct through its regular communication channels as work progresses towards opening this important community asset.
