Upper Lachlan Shire Council, represented by CEO Alex Waldron and Mayor Paul Culhane, proudly welcomed five new Australian citizens during a Citizenship Ceremony held on Thursday, July 17, at the Council chambers in Crookwell.
The event was a memorable occasion as the new citizens took their pledge and officially became Australians. The new citizens, who have chosen to make Upper Lachlan Shire their home, originate from five different countries: Italy, New Zealand, Germany, Colombia, and the United Kingdom.
CEO Alex Waldron expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Taking the pledge of commitment as a citizen of the Commonwealth of Australia during the Citizenship Ceremony is the final step in becoming an Australian citizen, and it was a true pleasure to be part of this wonderful milestone.”
“It is fantastic to welcome new citizens to our beautiful community. People from diverse backgrounds enrich our society, and we are fortunate to live in a community shaped by numerous cultures and mutual respect. I warmly welcome our new Australians and all that they bring to this country,” she added.
Dalia Schack, one of the newest citizens of Upper Lachlan Shire, expressed her gratitude while taking the citizenship pledge, saying, “Today is a day I will never forget. This marks one of the most important milestones in my life—my Australian citizenship ceremony. It has been a long journey, but I am proud to say I am officially Australian.”
Lina Artunduaga-Munoz, another new citizen, celebrated her milestone with family, saying, “Although my heritage comes from Colombia, I am incredibly grateful to finally call Australia home. I am even more thankful to be a part of the beautiful Upper Lachlan Shire community. I want to thank everyone who has helped me along this journey. I am excited to be part of this wonderful nation—Aussie, Aussie, Aussie—Oi, Oi, Oi!”
Pasquale Stivala, a community member who moved from Italy 55 years ago, took his pledge and remarked, “It felt like the right time. I have lived and called Australia home for most of my life, and sharing today with my family is wonderful.”
Mayor Paul Culhane noted the incredible atmosphere throughout the ceremony, saying, “It was a lovely day. I would like to personally thank all the attendees for their passion in becoming Australian citizens. It was great to meet each and every one of you.”
“It was wonderful to share in the spirit of Australia, especially the pride we felt singing the Australian National Anthem. It was a truly touching afternoon, and I welcome you all to Australia.”
