Wombeyan Caves Road – Open to Public

25-03-2024

On Friday, 15 March 2024, the eagerly awaited soft opening of Wombeyan Caves Road, stretching from Langs Road to Victoria Arch Drive, marked a significant milestone as it allowed access to the caves along this stretch of road. Following an extensive delay, critical works have now been completed to improve slope stability and road safety upgrades. These works coincided with the $9.6Million NSW National Parks and Wildlife Wombeyan Caves Precinct Tourism Project.

CEO Alex Waldron said “This completion comes in a timely manner as we approach Easter and school holidays. The caves are one of the Shire’s biggest tourist’s attractions so to finally have the road open again is wonderful news.”

The alternative route via Langs Road remained accessible throughout the project, facilitating access for construction traffic and local residents. Council acknowledges the ongoing patience of those using this route as work progressed.

Maintenance operations on the remaining sections of Wombeyan Caves Road are currently underway, managed by our neighboring Wingercarribee Shire Council.

This work was made possible by Federal and State funding including the Commonwealth Building Better Regions Fund, the NSW Government’s Restart fund, NSW National Parks and Wildlife, NSW Disasters and Council Contributions.

We eagerly anticipate hosting an official opening ceremony scheduled for July 2024, with Senator Deborah O’Neill presiding to formally mark the project’s completion.
