Awarded the Ginninderra Athletics Club Colman Trophy. This is awarded to an athlete of the club who epitomises the meaning of the club, ie Family, fun and fitness.

Macie was born with Cerebral Palsy which mostly affects her lower limbs. She often falls and walks with a limp, however her disability does not stop Macie from participating in whatever she wants to do, especially sport. Macie competes in swimming and athletics in the disability class known as Mutli-Class or Para Class.

For Macie, competing in sport is not about winning, it’s having the opportunity to compete just like every other child, having the opportunity to compete with children of similar abilities, having fun, trying to beat her personal best and most of all, she will tell you that the most enjoyable part is making friends.

Macie shows determination, commitment and a have a go attitude. Throughout the past two years she has been an inspiration to many people particularly the Gunning Community. She loves to have a go and inspire people with her attitude of “it does not matter how good you are, as long as you give it a go”.

The Gunning public school have given Macie so much support and encouragement and in return she has represented her school, her shire, her district, and state in such a motivating manner.

Here are just a few examples of how Macie demonstrates courage and wonderful sportsmanship:

  1. During the NSW Primary School Athletics Championships in October 2022, Macie competed in the 100 m but unfortunately not far into the race she fell, but in true Macie style she got up and finished the race. The entire stadium cheered her to the finish line with tears running down her face from embarrassment and feeling the overwhelming support from the crowd. After her race, she was greeted by many people telling her how wonderful it was to watch her run and finish the race. Throughout Macie’s life she often faces setbacks and obstacles, but she’s developed a natural ability to get on and has become very courageous and determined to keep going forward.
  2. At the same championships, Macie was seen high fiving each competitor as they completed their throw during the discus event. Macie loves to see others succeed and enjoys encouraging others to do well.
  3. When Macie competed at the Australian Primary School Swimming Championships in August 2022, she was asked if she would swim for South Australia in their Girls handicap relay as they didn’t have a multi class swimmer. Macie happily agreed to swim for them because if she didn’t join their relay team, the three South Australian girls would not be able to compete, and Macie didn’t want them to miss out on swimming a race. As a result, they came first and won a gold medal! Always thinking of others, Macie is a great sportsman. Macie doesn’t deserve recognition because of her disability, she deserves the recognition for her ability to empower and inspire others.

Sean is a member of the Under 19 Crookwell Rugby League side. He was selected in the Monaro representative side during the year. The local Under 19 side was not strong this year but despite this Sean was awarded the best and Fairest for the whole Canberra Region competition which was a great honour.

Lilly has achieved South Coast representation in 3 disciplines in Just one year. This is very rare to find such a talented athlete.

She carries herself in a very humble fashion and her work ethic and achievements speak of her ability. Lilly has the self-motivation and drive to train every single day.
