Winners announced for 2013 Australia Day Awards

On Saturday January 26 the Upper Lachlan Shire acknowledged the contributions to the community of the following Shire residents:

Citizens of the Year

Shire Citizen of the Year – Kelly Dowling

Kelly was acknowledged for her work as the President of the Gunning PA&I Society. Under her leadership a faltering community project, the Gunning Show, was turned into a successful entertaining event that brought together the valued abilities of past participants with new younger talents.

Local Citizens of the Year

  • Crookwell Citizen of the Year – Norman Fountain.
  • Gunning Citizen of the Year – Joan and Keith Smith.
  • Taralga Citizen of the Year – Bob Blay.

Events of the Year

Shire Event of the Year – Dame Mary Gilmore Weekend

The Dame Mary Gilmore event was a weekend of celebration in music, poetry and local history of the life and works of Dame Mary Gilmore.

Whilst the event acknowledged the efforts of Ms. Gilmore in a creative and exciting manner it also successfully promoted the town of Crookwell.

Local Events of the Year

  • Crookwell – 90th Anniversary of the CWA
  • Gunning – National and NSW Masters Cycling Championship Catering
  • Taralga– Focus on Taralga Art Show

Citizens of the Year

Crookwell Young Citizen of the Year – Izach Clements.

Izach was recognized as a talented, outstanding sportsman and role model at the Crookwell High School.

Gunning Young Citizen of the Year– Brent Hickey.

Brent was acknowledged for his work at the Gunning Show in 2012, his volunteer work 2010 – 2012 ‘Mountain Trails Adventure School as well as his work at Yass High School.
