MEDIA RELEASE – CROOKWELL POOL OPENS WITH A SPLASH

26-11-2024

SUN, SMILES & SWIMS – Crookwell Pool opens with a splash

The new Crookwell pool officially opened over the weekend. On Saturday, November 23, more than 100 community members gathered to celebrate the opening, which spanned two spectacular days.

The event was a great success, with Mayor Paul Culhane and Upper Lachlan Shire Council CEO Alex Waldron actively participating alongside attendees. Mayor Culhane even set a record at the pool by becoming the first person to complete a lap of the pool in 41 seconds, challenging everyone to come down and try to beat his time.

Mayor Culhane expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in making the opening possible. “It is important to acknowledge our dedicated team, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, even hosting a sausage sizzle that made the weekend memorable,” he said.

He also emphasized, “This project could not have been achieved without the support of various funding bodies that enabled the Council to deliver it. On behalf of myself and Council CEO Alex Waldron, we want to extend a huge thank you to the State and Federal departments who have assisted in funding the project.”

“We would like to say thank you to the Department of Regional NSW (Minister Moriarty), the Office of Responsible Gambling (Minister Harris), the Office of Sport (Minister Kamper), the Federal – Local Roads & Community Infrastructure Program (Minister King) and, of course, local member, Wendy Tuckerman, MP, Member for Goulburn, for her continued support and advocacy. We also must not forget the huge role that CEO Alex Waldron played in ensuring the delivery of the project, after several roadblocks.”

“While there is still more work to do regarding the indoor pool and the completion of fixed toilets, we are very thankful to be able to open for the warm months ahead.”

Over 100 people enjoyed the crystal-clear waters, and due to the overwhelming positive feedback Council have decided to offer FREE ENTRY to the Crookwell Pool until January 1, 2025.

CEO Alex Waldron announced this morning that entry to the pool will remain free until that date. “As a thank you for the community’s patience during this challenging project, the Council has decided to provide FREE ENTRY to the Crookwell Pool until January 1, 2025,” she stated.

“We understand that the community has been without swimming facilities for too long, and the Council wants to ensure that everyone enjoys the new pool after the wait.”

“This new facility is a wonderful place for young children to swim, for residents to cool down during the summer, and for the community to swim laps to stay fit and healthy.”

“It has been an enormous year of achievements for the Council as we look towards the next phase. I look forward to seeing it well utilised,” she added.
