Wasting more than you realise?

A recent waste audit by Upper Lachlan Shire Council revealed surprising insights: we’re discarding far more than we realise.

Did you know:
Upper Lachlan households throw away the equivalent of 27.4 kg of waste every week.

Australian households throw away the equivalent of 7.7 million meals every day.

Food waste costs households more than $2,500 per year.

We’re wasting twice as much food as we think, but what can be done about it?

The majority of discarded items were organic, with 32% being food and kitchen waste. Fortunately, making a few simple changes can have a significant positive impact.

Let’s work together by reducing food waste, composting, and making mindful choices to benefit our wallets, environment, and waste streams.
