Library Activities on the Rise!

27-08-2025

This quarter, the library hosted a diverse range of activities, including author talks, healthy aging workshops, Pride Month celebrations, and engaging school holiday events. Outreach to Shire schools expanded further, strengthening community connections. Additionally, the Library improved its systems by resolving changes with the National Library of Australia, enabling daily updates to the National Bibliographic Database.

Andrew Croke, Acting CEO, said, “As the year progresses, our libraries remain a welcoming space for students, community members, and families to read, relax, and enjoy the wonderful amenities provided by the council.”

Book loans remain a popular service, with more than 3,800 items borrowed during the quarter—2,558 from Crookwell Library and 1,242 from Gunning Library. Membership also grew, with 64 new members joining Crookwell and 20 joining Gunning.

In this quarter, 57 people attended Read and Rhyme at Gunning Library, with 93 people attending at Crookwell Library.

At Gunning Library, 15 people attended Sensory Storytime this quarter, while 42 people attended the activity at Crookwell Library. Our Libraries also hosted Simultaneous Storytime, with 10 people participating at Crookwell and six at Gunning.

During this quarter, 140 people attended the weekly Lego Club at Gunning Library, while 100 people attended the Lego Club at Crookwell Library.

These achievements were made possible thanks to the dedication of library employees while not forgetting local volunteers, who contributed 72.5 hours at Crookwell Library. This quarter, volunteers supported various tasks, including shelving, book covering, creating displays, compiling local studies subject headings, and managing the reservation pick list.

Upper Lachlan Shire Council libraries are dedicated to creating an inclusive community space for everyone.
